When You Arrive
A specially-trained triage nurse will begin by assessing your condition. With this information, we are able to treat patients in an order that is fair, considerate of symptoms, and conscious of wait times. Generally, Emergency Room physicians will treat the most critical patients first.
Registration
After your initial evaluation, the registration process is pretty standard. You'll be asked to provide basic information like name, date of birth, address, phone number, social security number, insurance information (if applicable), etc.
Room Assignment
Different rooms are designed and equipped to treat different injuries or illnesses. As soon as a room becomes available, a nurse will escort you there. For the duration of your treatment at our facility, this will be your private room. Depending on the ailment, you may also be asked to put on a hospital gown.
Visitors
To preserve your privacy and limit the potential spread of illness, we recommend that family and friends not accompany patients into the examination rooms. However, one visitor may remain in the room if requested. For patients who are unmarried and under the age of 18, both parents may be present. Young children must remain with a parent or guardian at all times.
Physical Exam
A board-certified physician will take your medical history, examine you, record information in your medical record, and if necessary, order tests.
The entire Emergency Department staff, however, is available to answer questions during your stay. If ordered by a physician, an emergency technician or nurse will draw blood, collect urine specimens, administer medication, or start IVs.
Diagnostic Testing
All lab work (blood, urine, etc.) and imaging (digital X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound) are performed and processed on site to expedite your care. Only an Emergency Department physician will interpret your results, and patients will receive a CD with their film and copies of results for follow-up care.
Discharge
Your Emergency Department physician will inform you of test results, discuss diagnosis, and review follow-up care. He or she will also write any needed prescriptions. A nurse will provide written discharge instructions. A clinical staff member will follow-up with you the next day over the phone to see how you are and to answer any questions.
Admission/Transfer
If you need to be admitted to the hospital or transferred to another facility, our staff will handle those arrangements for you. An ambulance will transport you to our affiliated facility, West Houston Medical Center, where a room will be waiting. One of our nurses will even call ahead to apprise the staff there of your condition.
You don't ever plan on an emergency.
But when it happens, plan to use us—superior medical care, close to home.
